WELCOME TO OUR NEW CUTTYHUNK ISLAND SCHOOLHOUSE BLOG!
Hello people of the world!! Our Cuttyhunk Schoolhouse blog is now live! The picture you see above is a stone map of Cuttyhunk Island. We are part of the Elizabeth Islands and the town of Gosnold, Massachusetts. We were discovered way back in 1602 by Bartholomew Gosnold, even before the Pilgrims arrived at Plymouth Rock. We are located off the coast of Massachusetts about 8 miles from the island of Martha's Vineyard. Life on the island is pretty quiet in the winter but in the summer it's very busy. The island is shaped kind of like a seahorse don't you think?
Hi my name is Gwen. I'm 7 years old and I have a bigger brother named Carter. I go to school in a one-room schoolhouse. Every day I ring the bell and put the day of school up. This is the first year I get to ring the bell because it is so big! When I ring it you can hear it all over the island. I also learned to put up the flag on the flagpole that you can see in the other picture below. We get to go on cool field trips but I will tell you more about that next time! This is me with Toby doing my IXL math practice.
Our one-room schoolhouse was built in 1873 and is in the middle of the island, look across from the church in the picture below, and just to the right of the white flagpole. Our Dad and our Great-Grandmother Hazel MacKay went to the one-room schoolhouse here too. We are on Tower Hill so there's a great view of Vineyard Sound. Isn't it beautiful?
<----- Here we all are at our Community Halloween party in the Town Hall. Toby is the one in the hot dog suit smelling Gwen, Carter is the tall skeleton, Ms. Dunn is the giant Dalmatian, and Gwen is the lady vampire. We had a lot of fun scaring people as they came in, we bobbed for huge apples, ate doughnuts that hung from a string without using our hands, and of course ate LOTS of candy!
Here's Toby the dog who goes to school with us. He's at the Fish Dock and was supposed to be helping Gwen write her three's table in multiplication, but he decided to go for a cold swim instead.
Here we are reading at DEAR time with Toby. He's tired from all of that learning but he's getting pretty smart for 5 years old!
We would love to have you subscribe and follow our blog by entering your email! Your comments won't show up as posted until our teacher reads them.
Until next time,

thanks!
DeleteWhat a fantastic life these two children have!! And I see how happy you are Nancy. That is wonderful! I like your sea horse but working in the stone crab capital I think your Island looks like a stone crab with one of it's generable claws missing.
DeleteYou and the children are three lucky people!! What a beautiful Island. I do see a sea horse however, working in the stone crab claw capital I think your Island rather resembles the delicious stone crab. Missing one of it's generable claws. Have a blessed summer!!

DeleteI went to your school - many years ago. Ask your grandma and she will remember my little family; the Ponsart's who lived at Cuttyhunk Lighthouse. You don't know it yet, but your education, now very unique, will serve you extremely well in your future life. When you go to the graveyard you can see my father's gravestone as it has a lighthouse on it. I will continue to write you.
ReplyDeleteWe will find the gravestone. Thank you! When did you go to school here?
DeleteI love that you are sharing your unique school experience. I will be going to film at the Taktse International school in Sikkim, India soon and I will share your blog with the children there.
ReplyDeletePerhaps you guys can have fun writing to each other!
Susan Schwarzwald
That would be fun! Thanks!
DeletePretty nice post. I just stumbled upon your blog and wanted to say that I've truly enjoyed
ReplyDeletebrowsing your blog posts. In any case I will be subscribing to
your rss feed and I hope you write again very soon!

I think what you published was very reasonable. However, what about this?
ReplyDeletewhat if you added a little content? I am not saying your information isn't solid, but suppose you added a title that grabbed people's
attention? I mean "Welcome to our new Cuttyhunk Island Schoolhouse blog!" is kinda
plain. You ought to look at Yahoo's front page and see
how they create news titles to get viewers to open the links.
You might try adding a video or a picture or two to
get readers interested about what you've written. Just my opinion, it could bring your blog a little livelier.
