SIGNS OF A CUTTYHUNK SPRING

Spring comes slowly to Cuttyhunk!  We went outside to look for some signs of spring. This is a beautiful purple flower we found growing on the side of our post office. We think this flower is a Grape Hyacinth, but we are not sure.

Carter took this picture of a Robin resting on a fence near the Post Office.  This is Gwen's favorite picture.   He had just finished pulling a worm out of the ground.   The Robin is a sure sign of spring!  The Post Office is very small and our Postmaster's name is Janet.

Gwen took this picture of two ducks looking for food in the frog pond next to Sopranos, which is our pizza place.  It is only open in the summer.

We also found a purple Crocus blooming beside the Post Office.  They come in lots of different colors.
Our teacher, Ms. Dunn, took this picture of some yellow Daffodils growing in the garden of the Island Market.  Our market closed for the winter but should be opening up again soon!

This is a picture of some leaf buds on a bush near the market getting ready to open.  This picture is my (Carter's ) favorite picture because it really brings out the feeling of  SPRING!

Some other things we noticed were the Osprey have arrived on the island after migrating north from South America, it's staying lighter longer each day, there are more people around on the island now, a few boats are arriving in the harbor, and there is a lot of construction going on at neighbors' houses,  We had lots of fun on our signs of spring walk!

Until next time,
The Cuttyhunk Island Kids

I must agree with Carter about the buds of Spring. There are so many delicious shades of green as Spring comes to the island. Green is my favorite color and each year I look forward to how many greens Mother Nature can show us in all those delicate growing buds. Great Job with the photography Carter and Gwen! And Thank You for the cheerful daffodils we found above our sink when we returned home!!! Arne also loved the cards you made for him! You both have many talents.
