Welcome to our new Cuttyhunk Island Schoolhouse blog!

WELCOME TO OUR NEW CUTTYHUNK ISLAND SCHOOLHOUSE BLOG!

Hello people of the world!! Our Cuttyhunk Schoolhouse blog is now live! The picture you see above is a stone map of Cuttyhunk Island.  We are part of the Elizabeth Islands and the town of Gosnold, Massachusetts.  We were discovered way back in 1602 by Bartholomew Gosnold, even before the Pilgrims arrived at Plymouth Rock.  We are located off the coast of Massachusetts about 8 miles from the island of Martha's Vineyard.  Life on the island is pretty quiet in the winter but in the summer it's very busy. The island is shaped kind of like a seahorse don't you think?

Hi! My name is Carter.  I go to school in a one room schoolhouse. In the whole school there are only 2 children, Gwen - who's my little sister, and me.  I'm in 3rd grade and my sister is in the 2nd grade. Our teacher and principal is named Ms. Dunn and she has a funny dog named Toby who comes to school every day with us.  Here is a picture of me reading at DEAR time.

Hi my name is Gwen.  I'm 7 years old and I have a bigger brother named Carter.  I go to school in a one-room schoolhouse.  Every day I ring the bell and put the day of school up. This is the first year I get to ring the bell because it is so big! When I ring it you can hear it all over the island.  I also learned to put up the flag on the flagpole that you can see in the other picture below.  We get to go on cool field trips but I will tell you more about that next time! This is me with Toby doing my IXL math practice.

Our one-room schoolhouse was built in 1873 and is in the middle of the island, look across from the church in the picture below, and just to the right of the white flagpole.  Our Dad and our Great-Grandmother Hazel MacKay went to the one-room schoolhouse here too.  We are on Tower Hill so there's a great view of Vineyard Sound.  Isn't it beautiful?

<-----  Here we all are at our Community Halloween party in the Town Hall.  Toby is the one in the hot dog suit smelling Gwen, Carter is the tall skeleton, Ms. Dunn is the giant Dalmatian, and Gwen is the lady vampire.  We had a lot of fun scaring people as they came in, we bobbed for huge apples, ate doughnuts that hung from a string without using our hands, and of course ate LOTS of candy!

Here's Toby the dog who goes to school with us. He's at the Fish Dock and was supposed to be helping Gwen write her three's table in multiplication, but he decided to go for a cold swim instead.

Here we are reading at DEAR time with Toby.  He's tired from all of that learning but he's getting pretty smart for 5 years old!

Sometimes we have DEAR time outside too.

We would love to have you subscribe and follow our blog by entering your email!  Your comments won't show up as posted until our teacher reads them.

Until next time,
