2014 Cuttyhunk Spring Walk

Today we went on a signs of spring walk around Cuttyhunk.  Spring came very late to the island this year after a long, cold winter, but we are finally having some warm, sunny weather and many things are now blooming and appearing!  Take a look!
Buds on many trees just waiting to bloom!
Pretty white flowers on some trees!
This is Forsythia in full bloom.
This is called Hosta.
Here is a turtle sunning himself on the big rock in Frog Pond.
Can you see the frog? Look closely to see the frog in our Frog Pond just coming out of the mud.

Ms. Dunn's dog Toby decided to take a muddy swim in the Frog Pond. Yuck! Bath time Toby!

This a sign that is telling us that the market is now open from 3pm to 4pm.
It's the only store open on the island right now.
This is a snake we saw at "Four Corners" that Gwen was scared of.
This is a Dove sitting on her eggs in a tree in front of the Corner Store.
This is one of the first boats in the harbor this spring.
We saw this large hawk flying above us at the harbor.
These flowers can be found all over Cuttyhunk.
These are Bleeding Hearts that we saw.
This is a colorful pink tree we saw.

We saw beautiful tulips.

This a dandelion we saw on our walk.

There are thousands of Daffodils on the island!
This is the entrance to our one-room schoolhouse.  Our Dad went to school here when he was a kid!

This is us on our Spring Field Trip last week - more on that later! :)

HAPPY SPRING EVERYONE!
Until next time,

  1. Hello kids! Boy, you certainly have some beautiful flowers and plants on your island. That pink tree alone is enough to make me want to move there - just beautiful! Loved the photo of Toby too. Half-mud/half-dog! Hopefully Ms Dunn was not half-mud when she finished giving Toby a bath. LOL! Gwen, I would have been scared of that snake too if I'd been there! I think it's smart to be a little leery of snakes. You never know whether one is dangerous or not, so it's best to steer clear of them and stay safe. Well, hope the remainder of your school year goes well and that you have a lot more of these beautiful Spring days to enjoy. Take care and study hard. 2. Looks like you kids have grown a foot over the winter! I'm sorry that my spring has been so busy. It means that there's been no fun trip to Cuttyhunk for me. but I'll be there for the Retreat in September, and I'll bring a project for us to do together! Have a fun rest of the school year and a very fun summer!! Gail
